What is a Thread Lift? How Does It Provide a Lifting Effect to the Skin? What Should You Do After Treatment?

Are you unhappy with the loss of skin firmness as you age? Is your skin starting to sag due to the natural aging process? Do you find yourself wishing the skin on your cheeks or neck could be as tight as it once was? Over time, our skin loses its moisturizing properties, like collagen, which helps keep it firm and youthful. In the past, invasive procedures like facelifts were necessary to tighten and lift the skin. Today, there are less invasive techniques available. In my next post, I’ll explain the long-term outcomes of these methods. But for now, let’s talk about what thread lifting is.

How is Thread Lifting Done?

During the treatment, specially designed PDO threads are used. These FDA-approved sutures are considered one of the safest materials that can be used in the body because they don’t create scar tissue. The threads are gently placed into the delicate areas under the skin during the procedure. The skin is then tightened and repositioned for a more youthful look. Once the threads are in place, your skin gently responds to them at a cellular level, promoting restoration and collagen production. The entire procedure takes less than 30 minutes and is performed using local anesthesia.

What is Thread Lifting?

Thread lifting is one of the most popular and minimally invasive methods to lift and tighten loose, sagging skin. It uses special threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO) to instantly tighten the skin for a more youthful appearance. The most common areas for this procedure are the cheeks, chin, neck, and brows. The threads work beneath the skin’s surface to lift and reposition sagging tissue and skin with safety and precision in mind. This technique effectively provides support for loose tissue and repositions sagging skin.

When Will You See Results?

Following the treatment, you may experience mild discomfort that can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. You’ll notice the results of the thread lift immediately, but your skin will continue to rejuvenate over the next 2-3 months. The effects of the treatment last longer than the lifespan of the threads themselves. However, ongoing treatments may be recommended to maintain optimal results. Since the procedure involves needles that penetrate the dermis layer, there is some minor tissue damage between the skin layers. While the short-term results are promising, if the skin’s quality isn’t maintained, sagging can reappear over time.
